Chatting with Hai Society this week, are Spanish amigas and business partners, Angela Huete and Sandra Rubio, AKA The Rats Company. Angela and Sandra, were already catching the eyes of a young creative crowd in Spain, when they teamed up around a year ago to launch a new kind of talent and casting agency. One that felt relevant to the growing number of young people that express their thoughts, views and interests through their visual outputs and shopping habits! Not something that can easily be said when looking at the traditional agency model. Angela and Sandra rest on their tongue-in-cheek sense of humour, along with their keen (rat) noses for sniffing out exciting up-and-coming creative talent, which wins over the many clients knocking at their door who are looking to be shown the next big thing.
Hi Angela and Sandra....or should we say Hai!
Can you describe what you do?
We basically connect people. Once a friend told me I was a "link-person" (more meaning like core but the translation is not easy) And we are basically making money out of it. We are very similar (we were born just one week apart) and we both have this particularity among others. So we give creative people the opportunity to work with brands and develop their projects as the same time we provide brands with creative content to speak to their publics. We also do casting and WE LOVE IT.
Where do you consider home? When do you know you are home?
I guess we are the daughters of nowhere, but lately we've been more connected with our roots. We are travelling all the time for different reasons and we belong to the sewers of the whole world.
Describe how you feel when you are on a creative Hai? (high)
We realised we loved (and were pretty good) preparing our B-day parties some years ago, so we decided we should work being moved by that feeling of euphoria and fun we were into the two weeks before the event. So we could say anytime we are creating a new project or thinking what are going to be doing next we experiment that same Hai feeling.
The best, untalked about place in your city?
Sandra: There’s a very curios neighbourhood full of very cute baby-coloured houses (actually very similar to Hai’s palette) with every door and window closed with bricks, We call it the closed hood and I love passing by on bike.
Angela: I live in Toledo, in the old part of the city, every spot is medieval and here I feel like a princess. There is a huge building that was a church but now is empty and the owners become it into a bar where I dream to celebrate an event with my friends. Now its closed because of the Covid :(
How, or where do you go to find inspiration?
Internet, Streets and Raves
What do you do when no one is watching?
Drink Oatly directly from the carton, we are obsessed with the brand
What's the feeling fashion gives you?
Fashion is fun and we experience it like a game, it allows you to play and have fun.
Where are you going to take your Hai next?
Sandra is moving very close to the beach so I think she is going to have a lot of time there with her Hai. I will probably take a walk with my dog (he needs to go out 3 times per day).
