Djouliet Amara

As we head to New York City to bring our first ever pop-up shop to the USA, we caught up with the incredibly talented dancer-turned-actor, and NY resident Djouliet Amara to talk all things style, career and her favourite places in the city.

We admire Djouliet's career driven attitude, something that doesnt come difficult to her as she elaborates on different aspects of why she loves what does. One of her favourite things about her career is investing herself in the characters she plays, discovering their stories and perspectives.

When Djouliet isn’t working you'll probably find her shopping for unique and sustainble clothes. Her personal style reflects her work, as she prefers to buy clothes that have been worn, loved and taken care of through the stories of others.

Read our interview with Djouliet and get inspired by her wholesome and special way of living <3

What do you do?

I’m an actress! I play house for a living.

Where do you call home?

My apartment in New York and Alec’s left shoulder.

Favourite spot in NYC?

There are so many. My friend Jordana’s couch. My home. I’ve been such a homebody lately since moving back here. I love anywhere cozy with a human I love.

What/where/who inspires you?

My friends inspire me. They’re all baby geniuses. But also, this city in general. I’ve been gone for work for a few years, but there’s definitely a reason I keep coming back. This time love kept me here. Love inspires me too.

A book or movie that changed your life?

Can I pick a series instead? Definitely The OA. Britt Marling is a mad woman in the best way. The show is the most ethereal, bizarre, spiritual sci-fi. It changed my perspective on this life.

What is your favourite thing about your career?

I love the adventure! It’s fun to travel all about and plant my seeds in different places… creating new little lives and inventing stories for these delicious characters. I love the curiosity— and connecting with people. It’s all an exploration on existence and life. It’s a really bizarre game of pretend.

What motivates you to work hard?

The opportunity to play again, and my family. My mom loves watching the art I create, so it makes me happy to give her something new to be curious about!

How would you describe your personal style?

My style changes all the time, but recently I’ve been into more sustainable fashion. I love the idea of passing down the clothes I wear for generations. I’ve been supporting a lot of small businesses lately that make high-quality linen pieces, etc. I love dresses more than anything. I think they look best on me! I love romantic necklines and puffy sleeves. My friend Anya recently told me that only girls in love wear those.

How would your friends describe you?

This is such a hard question! I think they’d describe me as hard-working and social… a romantic… but sensible!!!!!? Maybe? Bubbly! Maybe! It’s so embarrassing to try and perceive yourself in someone else’s eyes!

A song that you can't get out of your head?

Playground Love by Air recently. The fall always reminds me of it because I used to randomly work at this weird Glossier experiential boutique in 2017 where that was one of the 5 songs on repeat all day.

What’s an essential part of your daily routine?

Laughing before bed!!!!!! A must!

Breakfast or dinner, and what are you eating?

Dinner. And I’m eating chilli with a side of buttered baguette! Please have some!

Any hopes and dreams for the rest of 2022?

I keep them all secret and wish them on eyelashes!

Bonus Question: Where are you going to take your Vera bag next?

The baby comes everywhere!
